Dear Heart (1964) - Star of the month... Angela Lansbury

'Dear Heart' is a 1964 romantic comedy directed by Delbert Mann and starring Glenn Ford, Geraldine Page, Michael Anderson Jr., Barbara Nichols & Angela Lansbury with Alice Pearce, Mary Wickes & Sandra Gould.

Greeting card executive Harry Mork (played by Ford) travels to New York to marry his fiancee Phyllis (played by Lansbury). Along the way he meets spinster Evie Jackson (played by Page) who is in town to attend a Postmaster Convention. Harry finds himself torn between two women and must make the decision of who he wants to marry.

Closing remarks

'Dear Heart' is a mildly funny yet slightly dull comedy with a very predictable ending. There are some memorable supporting cast performances such as Mary Wickes and Alice Pearce. The highlight for me is Alice Pearce in her very brief appearance as a complaining postmaster.

It takes Angela Lansbury almost 95 mins to emerge for a less than 10 min appearance. Despite Angela's great performance, her role is far too small to save the staleness of the film. The film runs way too long and after an hour & a half you really just want it to end.
